DIY MaxiJet Stream (Pic Intense)

Actually the propeller mod will put out A LOT more flow than the just cutting off the nozzle mod. Not only is the flow wider and more dispursed, it is also a lot stronger. With just one MJ400 I can see flow from one of the tank to the other in my 55g. I am running 2 MJ400 maxi-streams and they produce plenty of flow all around.

D.

Yeah I totally see that, but you know I amazed that just with the stock parts I can feel that this modded mj600 is actually producing stronger flow then my SEIOs. I just feel so dumb that I just bough two SEIO 620s for my 20Long SPS system when I could have modded out two mjs for far less.

I would like to do the impeller mod, but dont have a dremel. I know I should get one, but I am on a super tight budget right now.

WOW - great mod.
I am in Ireland and I have looked into getting parts to do this.
Any chace any of you DIY gods could make me 2 for a MJ400?

Please Please.......

I will supply the MJ I just need 321mod parts - I guess the impella will be needed. As I am on 240V I needs the Base ùnits from here.

Just adding my two cents...I modded my MJ 1200...Works like a champ!!! Looks like crap, since I only have a dremel an not a steady hand...But it still works...When I finally get the desire/motivation to start over I will TRY to do a more profesional job on the slots, but for now works GREAT!!! I have a 105RR and I now have a VERY good flow on the opposite end...We are about to re-aqua-scape so I will try hiding the MJ better and that SHOULD be good enough that I dont have to mod it again...Although i want a 600 or 900 just to be safe and have it on the other end of the tank...But for now the 1200 is awesome!!!

Nice work!!! I wish I had better tools to make it look better...I have a second prop that I am going to add once I get more of the gray PVC that will be a little longer to house it...But as I said before VERY impressive mod!!!

Thanks I did it all on a miter saw using an abrasive masonary blade. With very steady hands of course.

The second prop does help to create A LOT more flow than just one propeller.

This is cool, but does it have to be soo long? I mean for smaller tanks like a 20gallon this think sticks out like a sore thumb.

Anyway you can make one for smaller tanks?

Thanks.

It had to be that long because I am using 2 propellers on that MJ900 mod and also to maximize the amount of flow by including enough inlet slots. For smaller tanks and smaller MJ's I do something like this

BullDZR is back!!!!

BullDZR is back!!!!

Hey everyone, just wanted to stop in and let everyone know I am back after a long break....though it will be off and on for a little while. I will get more into that later, but wanted to give everyone a quick update as I see some are impatiently awaiting details.

Before I get started, let me say BRAVO to all those who started where I left off... Though I have not had enough time to post, I do try to stop by once in a while and have been very pleased with the progress. to those who had hoped to get one of these from me, I am quite sorry for not getting to you, I have very good reason which I will get to in a later post, which most of you who I was able to notify were very understanding and I appreciate it. Now on with the details.

I can tell you mine is running just as well today as the day I built it... It even went 2 months without a cleaning(at which point the flow obviously declined) But after getting into the tank this past weekend and getting things cleaned up is it flowrific once again. I will try to get another video up soon so eveeryone can see. You will be able to tell by the growth in my tank that it is a new clip.

As far as wear on the parts. The superglue has held up far better than I could have expected. The prop is still working great and the magnet shows no sign of wear. The only place you can realy see wear is on the SS rod itself where it goes into the rod holder that centers things. It looks like it has worn alittle grove in the SS but this has had no adverse affects.

I will try to answer questions as I am able but as I said, I will be off and on for a while on being able to get to these. God bless and have a great evening.

Welcome back dozer... Was a bit curious as to where you ran off to, but I assume you have good reasons... Quick question... On your mod, what is the total length of your impeller assembly from tip of magnet to tip of propeller? My mod has had no issues other than imbalance ones, and I think that it might be attributed to too much length.

:fish1::hammer:

you COULD make the whole shaft and PVC housing shorter. But if the impeller magnet is off centered even by a slight bit, there will be that buzzing hum.

Forgive me, but I've never seen a Tunze in action. Does the whole PVC with holes spin too, or just the props?

Can you please PM me with a price for one just like this for a mj 900? I assume it would already have a mod to prevent flow in the wrong direction (sushi-maker)? I have been following your thread forever and would love to DIY it, but don't really have the time right now.

I plan to use it on a wavemaker, any issues with that?

Thanks

When I started making these for people I had orginally planned to go with a basic 'L' bracket for mounting. Over the Holiday I didn't like that you couldn't adjust the direction of the waterflow like we could with standard MJs.

So that got fixed.

You can adjust the direction the water flows and then tighten it into place using a nylon screw.

I also went from the turbine style impellor to 2 boat prop like many of you guys here are using. In this case, 'simple' was better then complex.

I molded the impellor to 1 solid piece so it just locks into place on the magnet.

Finally had some free time to post the progress and thought I would share.
