DIY MaxiJet Stream (Pic Intense)

Thank you both.

As long as I'm going to order new props, I might as well get the better ones. Can I just call the Octura manufacturer and order them? Anybody have the number handy?

Although, looking at the pics again - do you glue the assembled rigid, flex tubing and prop onto the magnet head or does the flex tubing just fit snug over it? If so, then I can give this a try with double dumas and if I don't like it, I can just change out the prop assembly on the magnet. Right?

Did you mean removing the black rubber end caps from the rod? If so just take a pair of pliers and gently grip it and pull. The plastic impeller head (the white plastic piece with blades) can be twisted off very easily.

I got the endcaps. It's the impeller head. I'm soaking it in vinegar, maybe it's gunked up so that I'm having trouble twisting its little head off. :spin3: :D

Thanks!

I've got extra cf rod, rigid tubing, flex tubing, and 1435 octura props. If anyone doesn't want to buy large amounts, I could mail smaller pieces in an envelope. Like 6 inches of cf rod, 4 inches of rigid tubing, inch of flexible tubing. PM me if interested.

Anyone willing to whip one of these up for my MJ1200 -- looking for a GOOD ammt of flow ... if so please PM me and let me know how much $ you would like

easier mod?

easier mod?

I have been reading a lot of these posts, and don't know if it was covered previously, but I was doing some thinking myself. I have a 10 gal tank, so the flow generated from one of these powered by even a 400 size PH seems like overkill. However, with an industrial pump, the vanes on the impeller are pitched different amounts for different rates of flow, just like a propeller. With a stock powerhead, could you just give some pitch to the flat vanes to increase the flow, then bore out the output to give a wider disbursement? I don't know if it would work, I have not actually tried it yet, but it seems like in theory it could increase flow dramatically from the stock set up, without the need to build the guard and all that other stuff. Any thoughts?

I recieved a mod from lutz, (who recieved much praise on his mods from other people that bought them from him) and I have come to the conclusion that these things are just way too loud for my taste. I dont like to be able to hear the powerhead running. Standing three feet away from my tank I could hear it. I could hear it from further as well...but that might be because I was listening carefully for it (I have somewhat of an audio engineer hearing). Too annoying IMHO. I installed it correctly. Its hard not to, as it was VERY easy.

The one I got from Lutz is a bit loud as well but I would be happy if it stayed running. It gets stuck and won't correct itself. He has not answered any of my e-mails either. I said he would send me another but I can't get ahold of him anymore.

I would like to see a final parts list for a MJ1200 mod. I love the flow this produces but it eventually stops.

Since you already have the shroud, it would be a simple thing to ditch the impeller/propeller assembly and DIY one yourself with rigid tube and RC boat propeller. The noise I'm guessing is from the excessive vibration due to how thick the "propeller" blade is. The shroud is the most difficult part of this mod. Fitting a propeller onto a MJ impeller magnet is easy.

The new propellers made by Lutz are much nicer than the old ones in terms of sound, with that being said, sometimes it is hard to get the pump started with the new propeller, but it works pretty well once started and is about as quiet as the powerhead without the mod.

I'm not sure where Lutz went either, he's either busy or maybe he got kicked off RC??

Peace,
John H.

What would you consider new? I bought one a few month ago and he was banned on RC for selling without a retail account. I have not been able to contact him as well others have not as well. He was answering email up until about a week ago.

can someone sum up the prop Model numbers that work best for each maxi? thats would be great!

Thanks

Yeah, I received his new propellors after one of his old ones broke on me. I actually bought 4 of his kits with the old propellors and after the first one broke, he said he would send me the new ones he was working on at the time.

The new propellors are much nicer and much quieter. Anyways, that was maybe like 2-3 months ago though so I don't know what has become of him and his other customers.

Peace,
John
