But why would you want to place the SEIO impeller on the Maxijet magnet? A RC boat propeller is going to generate more flow than the SEIO impeller can ever hope to.

D.

I have to say I didn't find anything stifling or frenetic about D's post. I think his apprasial is fair one. Like D said, maybe the tone came across wrong.

This might be old news but has anybody tried this mod ?

maybe its just me.....I thought it was a simple question

your right, with a simple answer...it's redundant to do so. It's like taking off old tires on your car and putting other old tires right back on....why becuase they fit!

Just boosting up my post count. Hehe.

Yeah, some guys get so twisted up about strange things... just reading D's reply, I saw no problem with it at all, he gave his thoughts on the feasibility of using the Seio impeller and I totally agree, the propellor will always generate more flow per watt used.

I thought the reactions to his thoughts were a little too reactionary, if you guys want to try it, go ahead. I'm sure you'll get better results than the maxijet with it's normal impeller, but doubtful it would be better than the fan props. :) :)

Peace,
John H.

I would like to take this time to thank D,for his patience, and willingness to keep this thread alive. An extremely helpfull hobbyist! IMO all replies have been very level headed, with the best interest to those that wish to attempt this mod or mods therein.

D,
Thanks for going the extra 10 miles for all of us. You have spent a tremendous amount of money and time just to be able to share this design with all the rest of us. I have made one and have enjoyed the experience VERY much. I am scheduled to show the Mod at our next reef meeting. You have given us all a great gift that not many are willing to invest themselves to do.

D, i'm looking to make some of these mods myself and was wondering if the 1.75" dumas with a maxijet 900 would work effiecently on a wave timer or should I go with the 1200??

Some older MJ900's seem to have a tough time spinning the 1.75 Dumas without help so that said it would be a safer bet to go with the MJ1200 for the 1.75 Dumas.

Keep in mind though the 1.75 Dumas will put out A LOT of flow so I think you might want to reconsider that for your 90g tank. Might be better to use the 1.57" 1440 Octura propellers instead? I know a few people who have 2 MJ1200's running on the 1.75" Dumas in their 180g tanks and they say that there's plenty of flow going on in there. For a 90g you want to tone that down a bit.

Anyone thought of trying this with a larger submersible pump like the Quite One or Eheim?

They might have more torque and be able to run a larger propeller.

So, I'm getting all the bits and pieces together to make this. I can't wait to get started.

I was planning on a double prop mod on a 1200 - since I'm up to my eyeballs in 1200s. I got the 1.25" Dumas props. Since I have a 90 gallon, would that be overwhelming? Should I not do a double prop?

What do you think?

Debbie

You don't need to do a dual prop. The design have changed a bit since my first version of this mod. Instead of doing double propellers, you should consider using single 1435 or 2035 Octura propellers they are much better.

2 MJ1200's running single 2035 Octuras would kick some butt in that 90g tank.

By the time I got on board with this, the threads had split and there seemed to be mods everywhere. ;) I've already used the list you posted to buy all the materials including the Dumas props. And it looks like the Octuras are a little harder to find...

So, if I'm still using the Dumas props, will a double be too much?

And while I've got you here - :D - is it just a matter of brute force to get the MJ impeller off the end of the magnet?? I don't want to grab the magnet with plyers and possibly damage it. Is there a trick to it?

Since you are using the dumas props I would say you will be just fine with double. I thought I would mention that I redid my maxijet mod. I ended up using 2 dumas propellars and I must say I am disapointed with the flow compared to my last single prop. I had to shave my last one down to get it to work and so when I redid it I wanted a prop I wouldn't have to shave down so I would keep its balance. Now I am trying to decide if I want to buy different props because the 1.25 dumas don't put out near the amount of flow I was expecting.

Kevin- Trust me on this. You need to try out the Octura propellers.

You can order the props directly from Octura the caveat is everything is done via phone or mail and they don't accept credit cards.

http://funrcboats.com carry some Octuras as well but much more expensive.

The dual 1.25" Dumas would be ok. The 1.25 Dumas props don't really generate that much flow.

If you want something better, I would suggest using Hobbico Nitro Hammer propellers instead if you don't want to go the Octura route. Nitro Hammer props can be ordered from towerhobbies.com

On the impeller removal question. Did you mean removing the black rubber end caps from the rod? If so just take a pair of pliers and gently grip it and pull. The plastic impeller head (the white plastic piece with blades) can be twisted off very easily.
