DIY Mini Beckett

Is there any reason you should'nt be able to build a smaller model still using a smaller vernturi. I wonder if there is a smaller version of the beckett injector somewhere?

Fred.

I've been making these things for quite a while now, and the Beckett injector works well, but I was very impressed with the venturi's on the Life reef skimmers. They seem to produce an ample amount of bubbles without a Beckett. The one improvement the lifereef skimmer needs is water height adjustment....It need to be inches higher to produce alot of skimmate....:)

The minimum flow rate for a beckett is 900 gph but to be safe a mag 12 is good...:D
HUH?? A mag 12 pushes no where near 900 GPH through a beckett head..more like 400 GPH. for 900 ya need atleast a mag 24 or better !!( yes I've measured the flow... have you?) and mags are the wrong type of pump for this application.. ya should use a pressure rated pump of 900-1100 GPH per beckett head.. plus "medium tea" skimmate, is way to watery.. I feel the skimate should be as dry and stable as possible.. I adjust the skimmer so the foam head is stable then adjust so that it willl slowly run down the side of the collection cup.. my skimmate looks more like Guinnes Stout than "medium tea"

Yes your skimmate may look like beer but have you ever tasted it? No- one likes a smart #$$ and your it! The most any pump can push through a Beckett is 1000 gallons per hour...and yes I measured it...

Ive been following this thread since its beginning. Just wondering if your protype might be forsale. I'm setting up a new 120 and need a good skimmer. I could offer digital pics and updates on ocassion to keep you informed of its long term performance. It sounds as though it would be more that adaquate for my system. Keep up the GREAT work. The negativity is just jealous envy...:D

Montipora,
no lol not the beckett skimmers, just the posts that brokekyle posts, he always seems to get someone ****ed off over some non sense????

that's what i ment was ridiculous, i personally happen to love these beckett threads, it's funny how one is able to incoperate something into the hobby!!!!!

It's not just me either...he has been warned several times...if you mention beckett he thinks it's a signal to start attacking...you would be led to believe he's the owner of the Beckett pond company or something:D

As long as we are on the subject, I'm going to go ahead with a new design of the Aerofoamer skimmer that I came up with about six months ago...It's a 8"double tower design, double the contact time..same height. The injector sits under the first riser's top...no need to incase it into a tube...this is the MIXING chamber, like a big washing machine...the the mix goes over to the next riser and settles out to extract the foam.

Remember..you hear it first here! George.."The Acrylic Guy"

Montipora,
that would be an interesting design i would to see it when you got it complete??? post some pics???? so when he here's the word beckett he snaps???? lol, kinda like my dog when i say where's the ball???

well its been a year since the last post in here, how did this thing work out long term? is it too small for a beckett? if not what did you find the best pump for it to be?

I made one sort of like this design, I did connect the injector tube into the riser assembly.

I am using a Litle Giant 3mdq-sc pump and am having no trouble with it. My skimmer is about 26" tall.

i wanna knwo how a 20" skimmer running a small pump performs. Like a sedra or mag 700-900 like on the bullet1 or on this skimmer

I was wondering how you cut the grooves for the o-ring? Can you
do it with a router or a drill press?
Thanks for the help!!
Doug

It is still running- I gave it to a friend, and he has been happy with the performance.

I have made shorter ones, with a 5-6" main column, and they still perform. They really short ones are best suited for extremely tight installations though- Taller is better in most cases (to a point).

Doug- Try wading though a search on "O-ring". I've typed it in more times than I can count. :)
