If your not using socks, why not just have the drain lines go into the sump without something complicated? I've never used brackets of any kind on my drain lines.

OP: The title of the thread is incorrect, this discussion is about drains. Returns are what connect to the pump to get water back into the display. Just to clarify nomenclature.

Is that a piece of PVC pipe with a pump on it? Do you use it to clean the sump and tank? What pump is it?

Yes, I use it to blow out the rocks before a water change. It is an original MJ900 with a Sure Flow 1600 kit. Not sure if they make those anymore.

Since I have flexible tubing I just don't want it to come out of the sump so I might use a piece of pvc to fix it .

Those are American DJ PC-100A Rack Mounted Switcher. Its not a controller but each outlet has its own switch which lets me turn off things without having to unplug them.

If you are running flexible tubing, you may not need a mount. I ran vinyl tubing for several years and just used adhesive pads and some wire ties to keep them in place. After a while, the tubing took a set and didn't need to be held in place.

If you are running flexible tubing, you may not need a mount. I ran vinyl tubing for several years and just used adhesive pads and some wire ties to keep them in place. After a while, the tubing took a set and didn't need to be held in place.

this is kind a tricky area. you just have to play around with it to find the setup that makes the least amount of noise. searching for "drain line splashing" will give you more ideas than you care to read. typically having the end of the line underwater with some holes for air to escape above the water line is a good setup. having the drain line come down at an angle helps too, if possible.

unless you have a 3 drain line system with siphon, open, and backup lines, you do not want to have your return siphoning. it should be large enough that it does not siphon. you should read up on tank plumbing.

When I used flex tubing I had an old hob overflow that I just hung over the sump and zip tied the drain line to it, also adding a DJ strip was the best thing I did on my last build.
