DIY Skimmers?

Has anyone had any luck with DIY skimmers? was thinking of trying this one http://randystacye.com/diy_needle_wheel_skimmer.htm and if it works well incorporating it into my upcoming 90RR upgrade. give me your experiences please.....

It is a good design as far as I know. It should work well. IMO, the only thing that really matters is the type of pump you use to inject the skimmer.
