Hello I was wondering if anyone could find a reason I couldn't use real socks for my sock filter draining into my sump I was looking up ways to make my own when I thought I could go to wall mart and buy a pack of kids socks and just use them brand new. anyone tried this ???

I wouldn't, but thats just me.

You don't know the chemicals that would leech into your system after putting it in. I don't know I guess you could try it, but personally I would spend the couple of bucks and sleep at night ;o)

What Micron socks are you guys using?

Gold Toe :D

Sorry, couldn't resist - 100 micron.

go with 100 micron and filterbag.com is the way to go. They have excellent customer service. Who would think that people who sell micron filter socks could possibly enjoy their jobs? ONLY IN AMERICA!

Anyone heard of using felt for a DIY filter sock? I'm wondering if I can use regular white felt from Wal-Mart and what micron it would be.

Any experience with this?

Thanks.

If you go to walmart, go to the sewing section. In it there is polyester that you can use for a diy filter bag. Cheaper, but do not buy any that says flame or fire retardent. Because they add chemicalls to those kind so they dont burn.

Boxfish, good point about the fire retardant felt.

Randy, the link you provided is the only DIY filter sock I've seen. Its actually the information I was referring to in my above post about the felt. Is the felt in your article purchased from a local place like wal-mart or joanns?

Thanks.
