DIY Soundproofing, w/ pics

It's a real amature job but it looks clean in person. I'm hoping it will silence the return pump, drain and skimmer. My condo is very quiet you can hear a pin drop upstairs so the idea of a loud fish tank was a turn off. Hopefully not anymore... :D

Please keep your comments clean ;)

I don't have a fuge so there will be no sump light. Yes I know I wasted alot of usefull room in my 30g sump. :(

Wow thats a nice job. How effective would you say it is? Is it a completely enclosed stand...I think it is from the pics but just to be sure...

One suggestion........

When linking to your Photobucket account, post the .img link, and the picture will be visible in the post.

That way, more can appreciate your handi work as some are leary of clicking on links or like me.......just plain lazy :)

Looks good, I also would like to know how well this works. on a scale of 1-10 (10 being more quiet) how much quieter is the system?

Thanks guys,

I haven't started the system yet but i'm sure it will be quiet. I will be closing the back but we'll leave a rather large hole, perhaps attached a DC fan or something to draw out or draw in air. These stands are fully enclosed 'cept for the back. Like I said I need a quiet setup. Something else I added that may not show on the pic, anti-vibration pads on the bottom where the sump sits. They are used for A/C's on window ledges so that should provide alot of vibration absorption.

Ever think about using Dymnat (sp?), the stuff they use for car stereos? It would be expensive and heavy, but I would think it would work too. By the way you did a good job and it looks nice.

Thanks, man...

Yeah I did look into Dynomat foam or whatever it is but it is indeed very expensive! I went around all day looking for soundproofing foam, mats, etc... I swear to God Canada has a shortage of everything. It took me 2 days to track down a friggin' Brute Ruberrmaid bin. The best thing I found that was inexpensive and safe to use was some of that pink foam like plastic stuff and the white lawn chair foam pad. Even though I left it in it's original package, (to prevent the fibers from flying around), it's still safe to use, non-toxic, does not absorb water, will not rott, will not turn yellow and is non-flamable. Now I need to find a back cover and add some more foam to it and seal that baby up!
