DIY Stand/Canopy - Paint Questions

I am in the process of building a Stand/Canopy 92 corner tank.

I had intentions of painting the inside of the canopy and stand white and then stain the outside....

I had thought about using a high grade marine paint from www.ipaint.us as it is UV resistant and waterproof....

Will this work ok? What kinda paint do you recommend.

Also what kind of stain and clear coat does everyone recommend.

THanks
Brandon

well, i just finished a canopy for a 180 AGA, I just used a good outdoor pure white with a primer first.

i used minwax stain and minwax high gloss polyuethane.

one bit of advice, stain and clear coat first let dry then paint the inside.
cause if you get paint on the area your gonna stain good luck getting the stain to look even.

great suggestion about staining first...

I was trying to find a solution or product that wouldn't turn yellow after a few months in the canopy.

Also polyurethane, in my experience tends to break down over time... the lip of my stand where water drips on it when i'm in the tank, is totally missing its finish after 2.5 years.

I guess i could clean it well and add another couple coats, but was just trying to get the most durable products available.

Someone had told me about sparurethane and marine paint, but I wanted to get more than one persons opinion.....

thats funny about it breaking down, cause i've been dripping salt water on my stand for 7 years and it never broke down, it's still as good as the day i did it,.....i also never seen it get yellow over time either.....was it made by minwax i think theirs is a non-yellowing formula.

yea.....a few more peoples sugestions can never hurt......having more than one option is always a good idea.

sorry didn't mean to confuse you.

the white paint turns yellow due to the heat and lights after time, not the stain......
