To all with regard to my post .....If you try this I STRONGLY advice you to NOT BE HOOKED TO YOUR TANK:mad2: :mad2:

I'm currently cycling my DJdenitrator (not hooked to the tank, using a bucket).
I'm on day 3 and the effluent shows high nitrites (9ppm) and fairly high nitrates (80ppm).
The water from the tank has 0 nitrites and 35ppm nitrates.
Does this sound like normal cycling?

Am using the LSM media, plus some Matrix. Have not connected the ARM yet.

siskiou----------- I'm probably not the one who should answer this as I also am just starting up, but YES you can except much higher Nitrites and Nitrates coming out of SR.........just wait !!!! It works and don't you mean your DJ Denitator:rollface:

Very smart NOT to be on the tank...and don't mess with sugar thingy...only as last resort.

Test kits

Test kits

I'm bad:mixed: Just noticed I posted that ALL my tests where done with the Salifert kits ............wrong, not that they are not good, because I do use them...just got typing and well missed it, sorry. As you can see with the pics this series was done using the API kits.

Actually I perfer and use LaMotte when ever I can....

Thanks, saltydog! And of course I meant to say DJ denitrator! I've edited my previous post! :D

Thanks again! Will stay away from the sugar for now! <g>

my local fish store said that lsm media was going to be discountinued which is fine for me because when i test my water coming out of the reactor nirites max out the api kit and the nitrate kit is useless when you introduce the first bottle the water turns orange instead of yellow i even took it to the lfs and they fliped out at the readings. the reactor has been at one drop per second for 4 weeks it has one gal lsm and one qt of arm and one qt of carbon all in seperate chambers

I'm trying to play catch up on some of this. Has anyone noticed a difference between the seeded and non-seeded sulfur?

Non seeded will take a lot longer to cycle. Seeded basically saves you weeks of cycling the reactor.

I changed my schuran reactor to a nitrate reductor. I have a 1/4 inch of air at the bottom. Is this OK?

Wow, expensive reactor :)

It should not be a concern unless you develop air pockets within the media itself. Shouldn't happen since the Schuran reactors are upflow design.

Hello To All :)

Is anyone using this reactor & a calcium reactor together, or a Kalk. top off with one ?

What results are you experiencing with the calcium, Ph, & or Alk levels. ?

Thanks for a reply

Steve

:smokin:

Steve,

I'm using all 3.

Calcium and Alk levels are maintained by the reactor at Ca 420 and dkh of 8. All my topoff water goes through a kalk reactor as well.

Since adding the DJ Denitrator my Alk tends to drop to about 7 dkh every two weeks. I use Seachem Reef Builder (powder) to bring it up.

The calcium reactor only runs during my photoperiod. Between that and my Kalk reactor the tank maintains a healthy ph of 8.2.

HTH,

Has anyone combined a coil denitrator with sulfur?

Why complicate things when a simple sulfur reactor does the job?

Few questions for you:

What are your nitrate levels in the tank now?
Are you having to degass the unit at all?
If so, how often?

Please post a pic as well of your setup.

Steve,
I am going to dose using a 2 part solutin to start. I don't have any coral in my tank yet. I want to make sure my water parameters are all in check for a month or so. I may go to a ca reactor down the road.

I think my next DIY is an auto top off.

Paul

You have PM.

[/IMG] no degassing
the first chamber is like a coil denitrator its has 50 ft of tube in it it then goes into the second chamber filled with lsm( there is a tube that empties in the bottom water travels up though the media empties out the top. the third chamber has arm and the water travels the same way. the fourth one has carbon. the water leaves each pipe out the very top
