DIY Sump

Hi!
I am setting up my first fowlr tank, and I need help with my sump. I was planning to buy one, but then the dollar per gallon sale came at petco. Can you guys give me tips where to glue to baffles, and overall how to make it?

Well, to design your sump look up the dimensions for the equipment you will house in it, for example, your skimmer, return pump, other pumps etc.

Research how baffles work and setting the water depth which is important for your skimmer and other tips and tricks.

It would take me all day to cover the different designs of a skimmer.

This is a good thread to read

Here is how i did mine... the second pic shows what I modified. I made the center baffle of the bubble trap taller because my WL ended up being right at the top. My heaters are between the baffles and I added an additional baffle to the fuge side of the return just to minimize turbulance.

You see my drains empty into the inlet chamber then spill over the weir onto the filter sock plate. Since nothing obstructs the socks switching them is simple. Hope this helps to give you ideas.

That helps soo much! Thank you so much Mrramsey you've been a great help. Just one little question, does the refugium not get water pushed through it? If you could post a picture of that part of your sump that would be great! Also what kind of tank is your sump?

My sump is a standard 55g. Not the best choice for a sump but I had one so I used it. If you look closely at the pic on the return line I have a tee with a 1/2" line that goes to the left to the fuge. It just has a ball valve on it to adjust the flow. I also just added my reactor a few weeks ago.
