DIY Wavebox! (With modded MJ)

nice post. I just read all 15 pages.

What about this, insted of pushing the water stright out of the wave box, turn the pump at a 45, pushing the water upwards. This will make a "wave" with the water, insted of pushing across the tank.

The idea is to create a surge effect inside the tank, not just a wave. So a wave at the surface wouldnt really give the back and forth movement inside the tank the wavebox is designed to do.

I've done the electromagnet thing. The field does not stretch far enough away from the magnet to "Pull" Or "Push" anything. The magnets are strong when you have direct contact, but they are not a long enough field to attract an object. I even called the company before I bought the magnet and told them what my application would entail, and they said right away, it' won't work. The field doesn't project that far. And I was only trying to get a metal object from 1.5 inches to pull toward the magnet. Sure enough, didn't work.

Good luck though.

Sounds like what you need to do is have a series of electromagnets - in effect creating a mag-lev. With the right controller, that could probably be made to work.

I always thought Reef2K was a good idea that was poorly actualized. If it had a better and quieter drive. If I had the time/energy, I would build my own version with a linear actuator.

Does anyone have any of those MVT timers? The link goes to a different site now. I would like to get some.

I have one I'd sell. PM me if you're interested in it.

A shameless Bump!

Any updates to any of the projects? Good, bad or otherwise!

I am looking to create a nano wavebox with a hydor koralia nano 12v pump.

I cant find much info them though! I dont have a problem with the on and off as i will be controlling it with a Basic Stamp (parallax.com) and can get what ever timing i need from a millisecond up.

I just want to know if repeated on/off will damage the pump or would running it slowly on say 4volts be a better option....and would this work?

any opinions welcome and please lets see how the other options are coming!

Levi.

I have a koralia 4 on a timer and everytime it starts it will rattle for up to a second or 2 before it decides which way it want to turn. I dont know if the 12volt will do that but I would think it could mess the timing up on the wavebox not knowing when it would start.
