Do anemones absolutely need MH lighting?

I have to agree with Rich. IME, the only ones that may NEED them are Heteractis magnifica and Stichodactyla gigantea. I have either had or seen all other species maintained for very extended periods under much less.

I don't see why not. Assuming conditions are good and stable and appropriate microhabitats are available (there is usually plenty of liverock available to BTAs), should do fine.

I have a BTA in a 29g w/ a 175 MH about 8 inches off the surface. It has gotten bigger and has extended itself noticeably higher up the rock it is on the last few weeks. It seems to love the light. However, I do not feed it big pieces of shrimp or anything. It just eats some frozen foods that the fish eat.

I've had both my LTA and Sebae for 3 years now under PC
96w 10,000 and 96 ultra actinic.
Both were about 3 to 4" when bought, now both are 12" and couldn't be healthier.
Both have attached to a rock, and haven't moved more than a couple inches in all 3 years

This is mine now under MH,PC combo unit. I'm going to be transferring it to it's own 38 gal tank soon. That's why I was wondering about the lighting. Tank needs a light upgrade prior to the move.

I have had a couple of them with VHOs and they get stringing and move around like crazy and eventually wilt away.
