Just wondering if black perculas occur naturally in the wild or are they cross breeds? hmmm. maybe one day somebody will breed a completely black or all white mutation.
so the black ocellaris that are for sale at the LFS are usually wild caught? I always thought they were a hybrid of the ocellaris/ percula and the saddleback clownfish

Black ocellaris do occur naturally in Northwest Australia around the town of Darwin. However, there is also a huge population of saltwater crocodiles in the same waters. In fact one of the main collectors in the area was killed by a croc a couple years ago. Because of this there are very few black ocellaris collected from the wild. Pretty much all the black ocellaris we see here are tank raised (from originally WC fish) by TMC, ORA, a couple guys in Australia or a few hobby/small commercial breeders here and there in the States.
