I've. Been doing some ready and have read that btas are grouping anemones... What exactly does this mean? I always thought anemones didn't like to be near eachother and always stung each other...
Anems of the same type don't sting one another.
BTA's typically split and group together but often one will wander off for a while and find a new home if conditions are right.
My theory is that they group to be in the "prime" real estate. Seems that in my tank they are all clustered in a spot under one of the MHs near the top, where there's good current. As they split they just remain in that area because they're happy. I think the current setup actually brings food to that location which makes it especially attractive.
Bubbletip and Magnificas will live in colonys and sometimes LTAs and Sebea will.
Haddoni is mostly a solitary anemeone
Mertens also i most solitary
Gigantea is most solitary.
Contrary to what has been post two anemones of the same species especially large ones like mags and mertens and gigantea can and will sting each other or shade the other to force the other to move to a different spot.
