Do Chalice Corals have fingers?

I purchased a new coral at my LFS..he could not tell me exactly what it was.
I've got in quarantine for the next 30 days and trying to identify it.

Its growth looks like a plating, cup-shaped montipora....but it is definitely an LPS. Its texture is that of a chalice.

One thing however: after about two hours in the QT, I noticed that it put out a dozen, long thin, wispy transparent fingers or tentacles.

Do chalice coral have fingers like this? Is this even a chalice?

I'll try to get a picture later today.

Thanks.

Vic

Yes, most chalice throw out very long sweepers, or feeder tentacles. Beware of placement in the tank, as they can give a nasty sting to nearby coral. Flow effects the sweepers too, so corals upstream are in greater danger.

Ever seen a stunner. Amazing how something so flat can sweep so far. No kidding, I had to remove a large colony after realizing it was stretching about 7" away wiping out one of my acro colonies.
