Do fish and bass go together?

Hey guys, I know this is kind of a strange question, but I wanted to ask it here 'cause I knew I would get some serious, bullet-proof answers.

Well, here goes:
We have just bought a new 42" plasma screen for our living room, and now I want to get a home entertainment system, the problem is, THE TANK IS IN THE LIVING ROOM AS WELL!!!!

And I am wondering if the bass of the system will cause any negetive reaction to my fish, as I know fish are very sensitive to bass and trembling...

Thanks guys!
and anthony!!!

both my cichlid and danio tanks are in my living room with my home theater and the wierdest thing i have seen as a result is my fish watching movies.:mixed:

This question has come up before. I don't remember seeing any scientific evidence, but the consensus is that the sound doesn't have a negative effect on fish/corals. Reef tanks are fairly common in night clubs, and if that noise doesn't bother the inhabitants, I'd say you're safe.

FWIW - The New Jersey Aquarium (Adventure Aquarium) has a shark touch pool with 3-4 ft wild caught sand/dog sharks. I was talking with one of the volunteers there, and they commented that one of the sharks actually jumped out of the pool a few years ago during a party that was being held at the aquarium. They blamed it on the loud music/bass that was being played in the adjacent room. The conversation started when I asked about the stress of them being touched all the time, and she made the point of emphasizing the loud music as the most stressed she had ever seen the sharks.

can't fish be stunned by a loud sudden noise. Seems to me like loud base would be like hitting the side of the tank. Not good.

Dropping a lit cherry bomb into a tank would certainly effect your animals. I do not think that loud music or movies would have the same effect. I have a home theatre, and I like my music loud when I'm listening. I have yet to find all my fish stunned and floating on the surface.

I have 5 tanks in my sunroom which also contains my own personal tank ( hot tub) and there are 2 speakers and a subwoofer that I play quite loud ( so you can hear the music in the hot tub), and I have never noticed any ill effects. They all even feed during the rock and roll!

Maybe that's the ticket, if it's good music, everyone's happy :smokin:

think about how loud the ocean is, even when under water waves crashing over and over again is not a quiet act. imo having bass in the same room is nothing like banging on the glass. i have a nice set up in the same room as my tank and the only thing that spooks my tank is new people making quick movement near or up to the tank.
