Do hard corals act like trees when growing?

I am asking this in the sense we know that if you have positional lighting then the plant will grow towards the light.

Same thing with water?

Yes. Stony often grows on cliffs or slants, and shelves outward as it grows, expanding more and more of itself into the light: it's a colony creature, and they all share food and bennies of light. Go to the Home page and take a look at the Tank of the Month and you'll see a beautiful example of shelving growth to get more and more surface into the light.

And flow will also be a factor in how they grow.
