Do I need to worry about my overflow

I bought a used tank and have realized that the seal on the overflow isn't water tight. As I'm filling the tank, water is slowly making its way into the overflow and down into the sump. In the attached pic you can see the water level in the tank and how much water is in the sump.
Do I need to worry about this? What kind of long term and maintenance issues will this possibly cause?

If your power goes out that entire tank will drain under your floor.

I took a pic down into the overflow and it is empty...so the small drip is just going straight out it seems. Can I see inside of the overflow?

I'm not following this post very well? Is the overflow leaking? If so you need to seal it.

I though it was leaking at the base of the tank not sure anymore??

I'm not sure what's going on...there is a small amount of water in my sump coming through the drain line. But there is no water in the overflow. Is it is slowly draining into the overflow and the somehow coming flowing down.

I would have to assume around the base of the overflow where it meets the tank

It sounds like your overflow is leaking into that part of your tank and then the water is going down around the pipes because they aren't glued. I am not telling you to glue those pipes either as I don't so that I can flush any animals out and detritus every once in awhile.

I changed out the bulkhead on my return hole and changed bulkhead from slip to threaded.
So with that in place, I of course still have a small leak that is letting water into the overflow but now it isn't dripping back down into the sump. So I should be good, right?

I would tread SOOO carefully. As a person who had a "small leak" - it was one of the worst experiences ever! Make sure that this issue doesn't grow. I would be 100% certain it is fixed and even then proceed slowly.

Is there any decent sealing compound that I could use with it slightly wet in there?

Leaking from the main tank into the overflow area is not big deal. Even leaking a small amount from the pipe connection at the bottom is no big deal as long as that is what its from. I pull my stand pipes and clean them once in a while, cant do that if they are glued. You dont want water leaking where it should be dry.

Cutting it off and resealing with the proper silicone.

So if the power is out it won't keep leaking into the overflow from the display thus overflowing his sump?

unless his stand pipes are really low it shouldnt...... All tanks are different but none I have played have stand pipes that low.

Wouldn't water keep coming up and going down the stand pipes until water pressure equalized?

Water pressure would equalize at the point where my return nozzles break the water surface...same way they stop backflow into the sump. Right?
And if so, there would never be an issue.
