Do I QT my Yumas?

Everyone,

Buying my first Yumas next week at a local frag swap. I plan on using Revive as a dip. Few questions....

1. How long do I dip them for?
2. Do I use the recommended dip concentration or do I make a weaker solution?
3. Is it necessary to QT them and for how long do you recommend?

In my DT I am running a Kessil 360WE on their new controller. They have a coral acclimation preset, but not sure if that would suffice the Yumas....hence I think I need to keep the color in the blue/UV range for a majority of the acclimation.

I am not only newbie when it comes to corals, but the Yumas will be the first coral addition to my 65g tank.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Yumas are not beginner mushrooms... If they are wild caught they will probably melt unexplainable within a month. Low flow, low light, let them get acclimated to your system slowly.

If your LFS sells Cipro, you might want to do a Cipro qt on them, and perhaps that will stop them from melting. But there is no definitive cause or solution/treatment to yumas melting.

I hate to be a downer, but I've bought plenty of yumas, with almost always the same results. There are some varieties that are captive raised, that seem to do well, orange ones, and green and gold ones in particular tend to do ok.

The Yumas I am buying are captive raised. I ran a saltwater tank 15 years and did house some corals, just not Yumas. A lot has changed since then, but it's like riding a bike, you don't forget the basics. I already understand the temperament of these shrooms, and do understand the risks. I am ok with the challenges of these corals....partly because I am truly captivated by their beauty.

Some people keep it in the dark, and slowly light acclimate it over the course of a month. If it's aquacultured, then you should be able to just dip really quick for your standard pests, and then put it in your tank. With mushrooms, I like using lugol's, but revive is fine too. I prefer lugol's since mushrooms and softies in general might actually benefit from extra iodine. But that is also debatable.
