Do I really need a UV light.

I've had a UV light on my tank for the past 4 years. In that time I have replced it 3 times because of leaks from the unit's housing. Just wondering if I really need it. I have a reef tank. Fully established. Hard and soft coral.

No.
I've used one in the koi pond---does great there, but no need in the marine tank. And the koi pond light has caught fire twice last summer, so I'm viewing it as a fire hazard.

Need one? No. Good idea to have one? Now, that's the controversy.

I had one in my tank for several months. Decided to take it down, believing that there are more negatives than positives.

never seen the point of one in SW. like SK8R said, great in a koi pond.

Running ozone has a similar effect.
