Do jawfish sleep?

I keep odd hours most of my fish are actually sleeping when I return home from work (2-5 AM) not the jawfish. No mater what time of day I look at the tank my bluespot jawfish is swimming around usually causing trouble. Do they ever sleep? or, are my blue LED lights keeping him awake?

On the plus side he has learned to eat from my hand when I have had too many beers and feel like being nice just like my dog.

That's not a good sign. Jawfish should be in their burrows at night. Blue spots have very low long term survival rates. I hope you are the exception to the rule, but unfortunately the night wandering is not a good.

They do sleep, but it isn't a bad sign that the fish is out and about, in the ocean that is when they move around, looking for new burrow sights. They move a long distance for such a small fish and it is too dangerous for them to do it during the day. That is one of the reasons they need to be covered at all times even after they have been in your tank and have a stable burrow. It is normal for them to move their burrows in the ocean, and in your tank they hit a wall and end up going up and out if not well covered. At different times of the year they move from the shallow sand flats (about 15 ft of water) to over 100 ft which is sometimes over a mile away. In your tank the habit persists and that is why they are moving around while the rest of your tank sleeps.
