Do Not Dry Your Lps Skeletons

Hey guys and gals,

Just wanted to remind everyone that if they ever are unfortunate enough to have a LPS coral die in their tank to not remove the skeleton.

Awhile back I picked up a few hammer corals that were on their last leg form a LFS. I got them for free and just wanted the skeletons for frag holders. 1 year later I spotted a tiny little anemone like critter on the skeleton. Now I have a nice red frogspawn with silver tips and 3 huge heads.

4 months ago I had a metal halide burn extra bright and it killed everything including the rock on its side of the tank. All sps, lps, and even shrooms dead. I left the LPS skeletons in the tank and today I counted 4 with tiny little polyps. They are comming back.
Now if I could just get that green slimer blue tort, birds nest, and raspberry pocillapora with blue polyps to come back...

Just thought I would share and maybe save a few still live corals.

I can help you with all of those......

Sweet I might have to take you up on that. I unfortunatly will be house and deer hunting the weekend of the frag swap. I push to get some activities for my area then my wife makes plans... Gotta love it right?

As promissed here is a picture of my "freebie".

Thanks it was one of the corals that made me want to build the club sharing program. I really would hate to lose this one forever due to a power outage or something stupid like that.

Strategies for dealing with power outages might be a cool idea for a meeting - or maybe a more broad topic of "possible mishaps" and how to deal with them meeting. I think most reefers could share experiences, and how they dealt with the problems - could be very useful for people who are new to the hobby in particular.

Great idea. I know in my years I have made a few bone head moves like not securing my drip line for my Kalk water and dumping 5 gallons of high pH water into my tank. Whole tank looked like a snow globe. Unfortunatly the snow was my calcium precipating out of the water column...
