Do Puffers eat Coralline?

My friend has a 180 fish only with a giant puffer... and he wants to try a reef. Not full blown but, he got a bubble tip and some coraline covered live rock. He figured he might add a few polyps and stuff. It seems that the puffer is stripping the coralline off the rocks. He is prepaired to get rid of it if necessary but, he was hoping not to have to.

Porcs, striped, dogface and takifugu niphobles do not from my experience. They may 'taste' some corals, ie my niphobles took a bite out of a shroom and then in a panic was swimming around the tank 'coughing' in shock, it must of taste really bad. Never touched them again.

If he wants a reef then he should get rid of the puffer. They are not reef safe and will eat crustaceans etc.

A DFP will eat any coral except green star polyps imo. If the puffer is bitting the heck out of the rock, he pry has overgrown teeth and is grinding them down. The toby's are the only semi safe reef puffer around. They will eat crustaceans.
