Yes, actually it is still ok to let the algae alone and do nothing. Honestly. It may be unsightly to you, but it doesn't hurt the seahorses at all. I've only ever intervened when algae started to appear around the gill area...and that was to make ME feel better, not the seahorses.
I personally wouldn't try a cleaner shrimp. Some people have added them to their SH tanks with success, others have mentioned that the cleaner shrimp stress the seahorses by climbing around on them trying to clean.
