Do tangs bond??

I just scored a couple of fish, and am very excited about them. Havent been this excited about any fish in years.

It is a pair of large nasos(12"), and they behave bonded to me. I cant recall hearing anyone talk about having a bonded pair, although I dont hang out in the reef fishes forum very often. I have, and have had had many shoaling tangs of differing species over the years. Never had two of the same species in a tank before

Even when we went to catch them out of the tank they ran around the tank together, and even huddled touching side by side in the corner a few times.

I only watched them swim around for a few minutes before I picked them up, and just a little bit ago put them in their new home.

Anyone else have bonded tangs??

Anyone with a pair of 12" Naso tangs is cool in my book. None of my tangs (I have 5 in my tank hang out together). Post a pic...I love Nasos

When I went snorkling in Hawaii, the large naso tangs were always in pairs. If you have a pair, that is awesome. Nasos are one of my favorite fish, especially when large. They are beautiful, active and peaceful fish, what more can you ask for?

I've got a blonde naso and a yellow tang. They are inseparable. They don't fight, they just swim together, hide together and always nibble on the rocks together. It is strange.

You should put up a picture, I bet they are a sight!

Up until I broguht these home I *thought* I already had a pretty large naso in a different tank. Hes not looking quite so big right about now. haha

Im in the middle of rebuilding this display........just starting to get the rocks how I want and plan on moving corals over soon.....

Doesnt matter much I suppose, but I am genuinely curious. The guy I got these from actually caught them himself, and he as well think they are a male/female pair.

The one which I assumed was the female, is about an inch shorter than the other, but the larger one is way, way larger in profile, as well as throws that back fin high in the air which I havent seen the other one do nearly to the extent

I really have no idea to argue otherwise. I probably should know more than I do by now. I currently have 14 tangs. lol

Well, I am not positive, but it is what I have heard and read. But there are many things in this hobby that I have heard and read that turn out to not be true...

I know i have heard many times over as well that only the males get streamers...

I guess what exactly is called a streamer is the question. Is that anything beyond the top of the tail??

The one I presumed was the female, has "streamers" at less than a inch, and she/he is not exactly a smaller fish. The bigger fish's streamers are well over 2".

Im actually glad you mentioned it, because I actually didnt notice it until you said it that she/he does have streamers to some extent.

curious for sure now......wondering if I just picked up a couple of guys who are having a bromance. I will not stand for that in MY tank!!!!! :lol:

as I said before, I havent been this pleased or excited with any new fish addition in years


Even if I DO need to get a rainbow rock for them to live under :hmm3:


If anybody has any further input on the streamer thing, I would be surely interested in hearing about exceptions, clarification of the "rules", or anything relevant.
