Do wrasse eat snails?

Just got my CUC. Snails only. Fed the fish first before putting them in but my melanurus wrasse is going around nudging them trying to turn them over and then it looks as though he is pecking at them but he is so fast I can't tell if he's getting them out of the shell. Did I just spend $55 on snacks for him for the month?

Yeah, wrasse eat snails and other small critters.

my malanurus ate everything. Including cleaner shrimp, big turbo snails, all other snails, all bristle worms and all hermit crabs. fattest malanurus I've ever seen. I think he has an eating disorder

Lol!
I'm hoping the smaller snails will be safe in the sandbed and come out at night when wrassy is asleep.
If I add any more I will add them at night and hopefully he won't bother them.
But I'm guessing that's unlikely.

It won't matter if you add them at night or when the lights are on, if the wrasse has a taste for snails they will all slowly be picked off no matter what.

Yep. My wrasse used to grab them then smash them on the rocks to stun them then ate them. Having a melanurus just means having to replenish the clean up crew a few times a year.
