Do you ever think of quiting?

Do any of you ever just think about giving up reefing? I tell you, I sunk thousands of dollars into my reef set up and corals, like everyone else. My system is top notch, I have some extremely rare stuff, it all looks nice and all. I'm very pleased with it. I just have this urge to get out. Money is the root of all evil, and time is irreplaceable. Dealing with FedEx and UPS, is it all worth it. The claims, people, product makers who lie, ect.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever felt this way. Never know, there may soon be a giant FOR SALE thread.

Hey man. Let me tell you. I had reefs for five six years. built up to 2000 gallons in my home. and then last year i quit it all. cold turkey. now, i'm slowly coming back, 20 gallon here 20 gallon there. Sometimes i do get tired of everything. the main problem for me, is that i can't leave my home for very long, without worrying about it.
but, ups and downs, is life

You mean like yesterday. Came in to my office after a three day absence to find my 3 mo. old JBJ chiller crashed and my tank temp at 95.7! All my SPS were bleached completely (thankfully only 7 relatively new frags) and my cleaners were nowhere to be found. My false percs and clams seem to have made it.

A call to JBJ, says they have changed the power cord apparatus and they will be happy to ship one out at my expense unless I want to wait a week. No offer to replace the coral though.

There have been many times I wanted to quit reef tanks and go FOWLR. I dont think I could even stop keeping SW tanks. They just look sooo good!!!

Every time I quit I get rid of everything and then in a few months to a year I want to get back into it. It always ends costing me more. I promised myself that if it get it in my head to quit, I will not sell my current setup, just put it in storage. I think once its in your blood you like to have it around.

I agree with you Shaun, I have been doing it for a long time also, Occasionally I'll down size. Usually in the end I end up buying again. I have moved several times in the last few years, and we have finally come to a place where we will be for a while. Its nice having a lot of the stuff I had saved, and am excited about doing a larger tank.

I built up three tanks (one semi-reef, two FOWLR) a few years ago, then had a major life-change and had to quit. Oh my god everything is so much more expensive now! It's taking me twice as long to buy everything again.
