Hi reefers!!!!

Do you feed your acropora corals with something??? phyto??? zoo??? any tip????

My nutrients are zero right now (API tests). I´m dosing vodka and mb7!!!!

Thank you very much and sorry for my terrible english.

To my knowledge sps corals do not have the polyps to eat phytoplankton. Their polyps are specifically adapted for capturing zooplankton.

I have gotten good feeding responses from cyclopeaze, newly hatched brine shrimp (artemia) and oyster eggs. Just tinker around with them and feed slowly (30 minutes or so) as these corals don't feed on huge amounts of food at one given time.

I feed my sps 3-4 times a week with Liquid Life zooplankton. I also feed the tank my mix of fish food including a few corals foods mixed in it and I also just started feeding Rods Food. I feed each on a different day 5-6 times a week with heavy feedings. My no3 and po4 have been at 0 or very near 0 since the start of the tank 4 years ago. I find that feeding the sps helps a lot with color.

ok....I read in some place that zooplankton could help with coral nutrition too....but my doubt is: What kind (or what size) of zooplankton???? Brightwell i.e. has many sizes of zoos....What size is better for acros???

Thank´s a lot

^ That is why I wanted to give Rod's a try. My fish love it, to soon to tell if it will effect my corals in a good way. Good food IMO.

It is starting to help my nutrient starved tank. Going to start trying aminos in addition to that soon.

I run method Zeovit. I use A.A., Coral Vitalizer. I complement the feeding with Cyclopeaze and zooplankton of Tropical Marin 15 in 15 days.
Best Regards

I have been feeding Rods for probably 2 years or so and I am happy with it. The corals like it (especially LPS) and the fish love it. We also just started mixing in feeding of fish eggs (forget the brand) which the corals like, fish are getting used to it.

Extra food includes oyster feast, phyto, and insant brine shrimp. I know SPS does not feed on phyto but the phyto does feed the zooplankton so hopefully it helps.

Thank you guys!

Whom saw a improve in color or growth or both...after start feeding????

Just a dumb question but:

What the hell is ROD???? Sorry i´m not american and I never heard about a ROD before!

Thanks again...

Someone using cyclop eeze note some improve in colors?????

Best regards

The great thing about acropora corals is that they do growo in different environments in different ways. In order to achieve your best colors, you should work the balance of your nutrient levels. It takes a balance of nutrient removal (silicates, phosphates, nitrates, plus others.....) and a great food source in order to keep the bright colors while not stripping the food source from the reef.

Keep in mind that with all corals, there is a unique symbiotic relationship between the algae (tissue) and the polyp. The algae creates its food source from photosynthesis in organelles called coralites. The waste alone does provide a food source for the polyp living inside the skeleton. However, this polyp can also grow significantly (Polyp Extension) by eating the zooplankton off of the water coloum. Adequate flow helps pass fresh zoaplankton to the acropora. This is why you always see great polyp extension at night.

I feed Coral Frenzy every two weeks or so at about half the recommended dose. I feed my fish a mix of Formula 1 and 2 cubes, mysis, cyclopeeze, and oyster eggs probably once a week. I figure the corals are getting the cyclopeeze and oyster eggs. Occasionally I'll throw some silversides in there for the scoly and lobos.
