Do you guys ever get ideas while you sleep?

So I just started my tank this is my fourth reef tank btw. But I am doing things different this time. Basically I killed all the live rock and rubble I had with vinegar bath followed by bleach baths. So I bought about 5lbs of live rubble rock and I put them in a mesh bag in the first chamber. What I thought might be a good idea if I basically wrap the drain tube inside the mesh bag and act like s prefilter. Almost like a live sock filter kinda thing. The only downside is now the bag is easily removed for regular cleaning. The other way it would be a pain every time to make a hole and stick tube down in there any thoughts?

I would ditched the mesh bag. just put rubble in the first chamber is fine without obstruction on the drain. Let assume the worst scenario, a fish got into your drain and ended up stuck in the drain because you have mesh bag cover the drain. fish died and clogged the pipe and flood your tank.

Well I had to seed my rock with rubble but once that is established how would the block be placed in there I googled the 8x8x1

A normal cycling process will be all you need to get "dead" rock live again..
A few pinches of flake food for the first couple days/week is more than sufficient to start bacterial populations...

Rock/rubble/mesh,etc.. in the sump just gives a place for detritus,etc.. to settle..
I'd just remove it and add the rubble itself back into the display tank.
