I have a lady coming monday to check the tds of my city water. the reason for the post is this:

she works for a companyy that installs ro/di systems in your home a 5 stage unit for drinking water. for $17.76 a month they install the system for free. When I told her I was gonna use it for my fish room she said it had to be for drinking water under the kitchen sink. we got to talking and she said they would do 2 systems for me for @ the 17.76 each. they do all matineance on the unit. I spend more than that now running back and forth to wally world or the lfs for ro water now so for the roughly $40 bucks a month I get 2 systems and I don't have to spend the money to chang out the filters in the unit sounds like a good thing to me what do you guys think?

To my understanding is that they only change out the filter every so often cause they only let you use so much of the filters. Since we needed to make large amounts of water all the time, it's not practical because we would run down the filter at a faster rate then just for drinking water alone. I have looked into it myself with calgone and their system is not free but you can rent it from them and they do all the servicing and changing out filters and all. IF you have just a small system, then it's worth the time to look into it, but if you have larger system that you need to make water all the time, then it's not worth the time.

Not worth it, man. Filters are only like $40 a YEAR (thats for 4, so including DI) and you can get a great unit for about $180. So, instead of paying them $210 a year, you could buy your own unit as well as buy the next years filters for just about the same price.

If you don't feel like buying one, go for it. But personally I wouldn't considering you can buy a unit for much, much cheaper. I just calculated a year... if you do 5 years (which is roughly the lifespan of a RO membrane) then we're talking 5 years of renting = $1000. 5 years of owning = $380. Plus you know what you're getting.

Their 5 stage for drinking probably does not include DI either, which you would need to get your TDS to zero. My understanding is that a lot of times one of the stages after RO is carbon in drinking systems to add taste back to the system.

Just my thoughts. :)

I agree with Brandon. Getting your own quality system will be much cheaper and the water will be much better for the tank.

 -- Yeah, I got woke up and then had to come and check my wife's bicycle race results. She's racing in Memphis this weekend and is currently #1 in the state in her classification :)

yea, for what you would spend with them, you can buy our own. then it is al yours. Airwaterice.com iss good and has sponsored the club here. I have used buckeyefieldsupply.com and they were very good to me. I have their product in my garage.

I had both the systems mentioned & Im muc happier with the Buckeyefielsupply unit myself. Def buy a unit instead of renting one.
