do you know how lucky you lot are, i live in the UK and we dont have anything bright avaliable to us here like you lot have by the there. i could travel the full length of our little island and visit every lfs and id be bloody lucky to find anything that resembles a bit of colour or brightness to it with zoa's. we just have bucket loads of dull brown/green colonies.

why is that you lucky buggers?

I'd say it has a lot to do with people willing to pay $600 a polyp... lol Seriously... It probably has more to do with Geography than anything else... Its easier to get something from the South Pacific to Los Angeles, and then have it spread from there... And then of course the Caribbean is in our backyard... You guys have to have something we'd want up there??? Hmmm, perhaps stuff from the Red Sea??? lol :D

I know at least one person from the other side of the pond has been able to find some nice zoas. I haven't seen him around here lately, though. If I can hunt him down, I'll see if he has any advice on where to get them.

that be great gflat65 thx

i would of said it could be a distance thing but TMC seem tobe the major marine supplier here and if they get the green/brown zoa's by the bucket load why do the colourful stuff never make it here.

I think alot of it is because zoanthids are not as popular over in Europe like they are here. I have read a few things in Coral(Korall) magizne where D knop has talked about that zoanthids over in Europe are pest corals because the SPS are more popular....

i know this is a stupid queston, but can us traders ship to the uk? i wouldn't have thought so, because of cites, but thought i'd ask.

is it possible for hobbyists to ship frags to the uk?

does cites restrict the import / export in captive propogated frags??

tip: start a zoa group like say you and 5 reefer friends deside okay we will each buy 3 diffrent colloneys of diffrent colors then just surrond your colloneys with with shells or small hunks of LR then trade your frags btween you all then wamo you all have a nice colored reef and all you each did was pay for 3 cols

I'm not sure about shipping into the UK, but I know someone mentioned having things shipped in from online stores or something of the like. Price is the main obstacle from what I understand, as overnight shipping out of country can be pricy...

anyone willing to experiment, seeing if some frags can last the journey? i would be willing to cover all postage costs.

They do, but most people this side of the pond aren't prepared to pay top dollars for small frags, shipping of around $120 per box & then VAT/import duty of around 20%

I've done it, but it gets super expensive when you get losses in the shipment as well.....

As a side note it seem frags sent from private addresses are stopped by customs coming into this country, only stuff from businesses with the correct paperwork is allowed through

Cheers Shelton.

shultz - anything can come through ur post system! i was over there last year when i saw a whole lot of a certain plant arrive in the mail!!!!!

i agree however, when it comes to crazy colourful zoo's and ric's, the US is just rediculous compared to the rest of us.... but then why wouldnt it be if ppl are prepared to pay the prices there and i wouldnt be here, it should be sent to the us.

I know the hobby is alot different in germany but they dont get any colorful zoo's there? I'd think it'd be easier to get them to the UK from germany than from the US

we do have plenty outlets here selling zoa's but ALL are of the dullish brown and green varieties, some reef keepers collect them and do have some more colourful stuff but most of those were originally imported and/or fraged/swapped amongst others with special stuff.

it really is a different ball game here in UK.

im not saying they never make these shores its just that if some do, they never make it to the shop show tanks. (tho we have seen some pinks lately)

eg shultz who posted on this thread has lots zoa's some very colourful but id guess his have come from your shores doin it his way.

i think a good guide as comparrison to show wats on offer in the UK is to view the websites of all the marine coral sellers you can find and see for yourself, its dull brown/green all the way with the occasional zoa having a bit of a highlight lol

swapping frags here in UK would be one way to spread nice stuff but thats never gonna happen cause we know ones got the nice ones to swap around, a few that have something special (imported) rightly dont see anything as bright to swap with so its stalemate so to speak.

we dont even have a zoanthid section on our biggest reef forum to help push this swapping/spread of stuff lol

berns,

I think if you search you will find people willing to trade or sell special ones in your country.

For me ... i searched 1 year to get those.

You get across the boarder and we'll meet... I will make you a stone with all the pieces i have fragged on it...
