The only crabs I consider reef safe besides hermit cleaners, are emerald for algae and acro crabs. And the only acro crab I like is the eye banded one. As a rule, crabs are predators.

And I hate to say that about ANY marine animal but ...

wHEN i first got into marine tanks That was hitching on a LR but I didnt remove him. after about 2 year I finally caught him in the act !

I kept lossing fish over and over and over and not like fish dieing just plain poofing ! one day after i bought 3 bansi like fish one disappeared one day , then another the next day , then the last the 3rd day. I went in and moved all the rocks around and found that EXACT crab munching on one.

When we moved he was out of the live rock and he was removed from the tank and placed in a dry tank acidently I know of 3 that were lost but I know there was a LOT more. Never forgoet that nasty little crab ! That is a dead on match to that crab !
