Do you KNOW your water quality? TDS meters

Well, I was looking around online to find myself a good-quality, reasonably-priced TDS meter to test my RO/DI system. I decided to go with an HM brand model#TDS4 meter. They are accurate and read in 1 PPM increments. They come fully calibrated and with batteries. They are ready to use. They actually have the domain name www.TDSmeter.com

The place where I bought them offered a discount as you purchase higher quantities. I wanted to save a few bucks (who doesn't) so I ended up with 15 meters here. One is mine so I will offer 14 for sale.

I wanted to give the local reefers first dibs on these meters so I am putting them in our club's forums. After about a week I will just post the remaining meters in the main sale area and get rid of them. I am trying to make a few dollars so I can get more items at the frag swap.

I made a deal with my wife that I would only spend a certain amount on the frag swap and this was my ingenious idea to stretch those dollars to get me more frags without using the grocery money (again) :D

If you are interested in a DIGTAL TDS METER Just PM me and let me know how you want to handle the exchange. I don't want to drive around spending $10 on gas to try to sell these for a $5 profit so hopefully you guys will want them either mailed to you ($3.50 extra) or we can meet at the frag swap. I could even bring them to you at the next C-SEA meeting but, in that case, I would like to receive the payment before the swap (via Paypal or mail a check/money order) and I will deliver them at the meeting so I don't get stuck and also will have the money to buy frags.

I have a Paypal account and will send it to anyone that would like to send payment through that method.

I would also be willing to trade for equal value, interesting frags of almost anything that isn't either green, brown, xenia or anthelia. I am very interested in blue or other bright zoas and bubbles, hammers, or torches that aren't green.

The price for the meters is $25 (or $28.50 shipped locally). They retail on all the LINKED RETAILER'S websites for $34 - $39 plus shipping.

Thanks,
-- Kevin

Kevin, I'll take one. There is nothing tricky about them< right? I always take samples out to Dan so this would be good. You can bring it when we hook up about the gear here. thx!

Amy,
You've got it. Nothing to it at all. Press the "on" button wait till it says 000 dip it into the water and read the TDS. Check your tap water then check your RO/DI for TDS and there should be at least 90% TDS removed according to the sites I have read. So if your tap is 200ppm and your RO/DI reads more than 20ppm it's time to do some maintenence on the ole' RO system.

4 gone, 10 left ... anyone else?

I already have a TDS and they are a great tool. They will save you the cost of them in no time by telling you when your DI resin needs changed, or if your RO membrane is really still good. Without one you are really guessing about what quality of water you are using even after spending at least $100 on a RO unit.

On the numbers thing Kevin mentioned above. If your membrane is rated at 90% rejection then under ideal operation you should get 90% less solids than your tap water. Then with new DI resin you should be able to get to zero solids. How high you are then willing to let the numbers go before changing the resin is your call. I normally change out at 3.

Most people will suggest you change your RO membrane after 2 years use. If you know what the output is you can get much longer use out of them. Randy in the chemistry forum has about 8 years use on a membrane now if I remember correctly.

A TDS meter won't detect chlorine or chloramines. Because of that I do still change my carbon, and sediment carts on a regular basis. They are the cheap ones anyway...

Thanks for the info Josh. 8 years on an RO membrane... sounds like he got his money's worth out of his TDS meter :)

Erik, I have yours reserved.

Just listed them in the main selling section tonight. If you want one at the frag swap or next week's meeting let me know soon before they are spoken for. Will trade for frags.
