why or why not?

if you do use a filter sock, do you put your skimmer intake before or after the sock?

Carl

I just recently started using a filter sock on the drain lines in my sump to deal with microbubbles and detritus from the LR because the tank is only a couple weeks old. The skimmer intake is right after the filter sock because there is no way for me to have it before the filter sock.

The most important thing to remember with filter socks is they have to be changed every couple days or they will become a nitrate factory.

Intake from tank goes directly into the skimmer. The Filter Sock is placed around the skimmer's output. That way I have 2 chances at getting whatever is in the water, out.

Even with a Deltec skimmer, the filter socks pull out lots of stinky stuff. If I go without them for a few days, the water gets too many floating particles. I'm not against having them, but they do get out of hand. I also blow off the live rock once a week and that releases huge plumes of crud. Filter socks aid in catching lots of this stuff.

The only time I would put one on, is when I know people are coming over and I want my tank looking super clear. It is clear now, but I know a filter sock would make it look awesome. For my veiwing purposes, I do not need one, as I like the plankton in my tank not to be filtered out. That's if it survives my skimmer.

My over all position is "No".
