doc 9205 recommendation

For an in tank application on a 75 gallon lps dominant/medium stocked (fish) display, is this (classic 9205) the tunze skimmer you would recommend? Or would the 9005 be more appropriate? Is micro-bubble return a problem for either? Thanks for your time roger..

If you are going to use the skimmer in your tank without a sump I would go with 9005 or 9010. 9005 is similarly rated as 9205. However, given my experience with Tunze skimmers so far, I really like 9010 in my 58g tank although 9005 would work just fine. In addition, the price difference between 9010 and 9005 is not much if you take into account of optional equipment for sump use, which is included in 9010 model.

I hope this helps until Roger comments on this.

Thanks coco. Do you have any micro-bubble return on yours? I'm wanting to minimize anything seen in the display equipment wise, and going lps i'm not to worried about heavy skimming. How long have you run your tunze?

Their will be some microbubbles and this varies with water chemistry and is worse when the skimmer is new. The Comline skimmers are definitely preferred for in tank use. I think as far as in tank or hang on skimmers go, the Comline will produce fewer bubbles than any other. If you will definitely use it in tank get the 9005 but the 9010 is a better value for in sump use.

I don't see microbubbles coming out of the skimmer. I guess as Roger said it may depend on chemistry in the tank. I have been using the new 9010 skimmer for about a month now. It has given me very consistent and reliable results. I would expect the same from 9005.

Finally, as Roger mentioned, if you are planning a sump in the future, then you are better off with 9010. If not, 9005 would be a better choice.

Hope this helps.
