what is the minimum height you need to remove the cup?
and, if i take the lid off, how much clearance will that give me?

i would love to place this in a build, but it will be cutting it soo close.....

The lid is about 3/8" thick, removing it is a bad idea, as heavy as that lid is I have seen a 9480 lift the lid off from the density of the foam column. The skimmer is just shy of 28" and 32" is the minimum height to comfortably remove the cup. I know Salty Critter has these in stock.

i was going to remove the lid before removing the cup (tight space)
so i would need a min of 32 with the lid on, or if i take it off, i need 31 and 5/8"

Ah, I see, in that case the lid would require just shy of 1.75" to remove it. It has an acrylic ring that goes down over the inner riser tube, this acts to stop skimming when the cup is full as the air can no longer escape.
