I was wondering, do you need a SLR camera so use lenses? for example if you bought a 100mm lense could you just hold it up to your point and shoot camera?
I think you'd be better off using an adapter and a telephoto lens for a point and shoot camera. and, I know that some people had taken pretty darn awesome pictures using a good quality magnifying glass and a P&S cams.
It is possble to get an adapter and attach either telephoto or wide angle lenses for some point and shoot cameras ( like my nikon 5700)
wether that is recommended or if that will provide any advantages< i can't tell having not done it. But that camera had a zoom lens covering from 33 to 330 with the 1.5 crop factor. it could also focus on a minimal distance of 3 cm so i really doubt what advantages i could have had getting any additional lenses to it. I did get the adapter though to attach a 3rd party ring flash to it to enhance macro capabilities. which i still didn't try.
I think one aspect to seriously consider is the loss of quality provided by quality glass of lenses used with SLRs over the native lens of a point and shoot which i think is of inferior quality.
