Does a frogspawn/hammer head die when another splits???

This seems to happen to me;

All is fine, then without warning, one head dies. Right next to that head, another head appears to be splitting.

How can one part do badly and another part divide?

Is this the way they grow?

I have had a FS colony for 7 years and have never had this happen. Is there a barnicle or something over growing the head and killing it?

mine has split several times and this never happend

Once some salt creep dropped on a head and it slowly melted and dissolved in the water. Luckily it recovered. It could also be that one head doesn't get enough light because another head is covering the light.

Is there another coral stinging the old heads? Are the dying heads always in the same region?

As with the other I have never had this happen.
