I have this thing growing at the bottom of my zoas Is it bad and should I remove the coral and take it off.
Second Picture
Leather coral is not happy and it has this spotting on it. Wasn't there yesterday and it is usually out in full display. Any ideas as to why or what is happening to it.
Water parameters are where they should be.
Ammonia .25 ppm
Nitrite. 0.0 ppm
Calcium 420 ppm
Alkalinity 9 dkh
Salinity 1.026
PH 8.3
Magnesium 1400ppm
Hope you can shed some light on this for me
:(

Thank you C. Eymann followed the link and decided to go the chemical route. Just have to find something that won't effect my zoa.

Hi Ryan. No I have had the leather for awhile. and sometimes the polyps are total gone as in the picture. They have always come back the next day or so but I have never seen the brown stain that I first noticed yesterday. The polyps started to reappear today but would like to know about the marks on the stem of it. Should I be trying a coral dip or something like that??

Will that discoloration on the Toadstool rub off with your finger? Having algae grow on the stalk is definitely not uncommon, so you might want to hold off on the chemicals for now. To be honest with you the coral doesn't look bad at all, just a little upset at the moment. The link below might help.

Thanks to everyone again. Leather if back in full form look healthy.
Alsimmons will try and sea if the colour will rub off. There are 4 heads to this piece and all look great. Guess I should have given it a little time before bothering others. Thanks again.

My leathers do the same thing and go through phases. Good thing with leathers though is that they are extremely hardy and resilient :) I was asking if you just had acquired the Zoas recently more specifically, because it's happened to me before (purchasing a frag with Aiptasia on it). If you had just got it, I would have recommended getting it out of your tank asap and returning it. But if it's been in your tank for some time now, good chances are there are Aiptasia throughout your tank that you can't even see. Aiptasia is bad news for sure and needs your immediate attention. Read the link someone posted above and see what you can do. If your other inhabitants will allow for it, I strongly recommend getting a (or a couple) peppermint shrimp. They make quick work of that stuff! Good luck bro
