Does anyone know what this sea star is?

Found a hitch hiker amongst my live rock and iv been looking around to try and find out what it is but I can't find it at all! Any help guys? The picture isn't cracking but the colours of it are a predominant tan colour with patches of dark brown and it has a red centre.

The way you described it sounds somewhat like a red chocolate chip star, but I'm not really sure. The pic kind of looks like one, but the description of it just doesn't match anything I know.

I kinda looks like the red chic chip but it has less red and doesn't have the tell tail chocolate chips

For somebody who has used CC as feeders, I can tell you not all of them have a red or black "chips" on them.. some are pure brown like bleached almost. Their colors are highly variable.

However I cannot picture a cc being a hitchhiker despite the resemblence.

There is a possibility that it IS a CC.. there have been reports, but honestly I just find the odds quite low. Nonetheless.. whatever it is there is one thing I can identify.. it's going to eat anything it catches whether it's crabs or coral and you want him out ASAP.

It has little bumps on it like a protoreaster sp. does. (I have a larger scale image viewer :spin3
