does anyone lube their return pump shaft?

Just wondering if there's a trick to reduce calcium precipitate on the return pump shaft to avoid it jamming. I have a quiet-one 3000 , if I don't take it apart and soak it in vinegar every 2 or 3 weeks it could jam from the Ca. I was considering puting some food grade silicone lube on the shaft, but I wanted to know if anyone had a better idea.

Funny, Im cleaning mine right now...i dont have to clean mine as often as you but it has always just been part of my regiment on the weekend during water changes.

I don't think silicone would hold up for very long but it shouldn't hurt anything.

Usually when your pumps need cleaning that often it is a very hot pump or a high level of calcium and alkalinity letting the precipitate happen.

If the pump runs cool and your alk isn't above 9 then check your magnesium.
