Does Anyone Name Their Fish?

My 7 yr old son has named most of the fish after the characters in the Ben 10 cartoon. Its kinda cool... my blueface angels name is "Waybig".

It kills my husband laughing when I name all the fish. The hippo tang is happy
The fox face I named after a friend ~ Bob. thanks for sharing.

This reefer told me a story about how him and his Gf use to name all their fishes and they would end up dying. They stopped naming their fishes and they stayed alive lol pretty funny I thought

Funny if and when they have died in then past he asked me to stop giving them names. He told me it was bad luck to name the fish. We don't fight about it. I have become in love with the tank and the hobby. I love to go shopping at the fish store. He is telling me time too go. Lol ~ Question is do you ever name your fish?

Ya it's pretty funny when you think about it.

I used to...

When my fire eel "airbrushed" died I quit. I had him for 12 years

He had the most personallity of any fish I've ever had the pleasure of spending time with

My husband and I name most of my reef critters. They're usually named after characters from TV. We have a Yasha Haze goby & shrimp called Ignignokt & Err, a hermit called Robocop and another called Tom Haverford. It can get quite random. :lmao:

Yeah my wife names the fish, its useful because she doesn't know all the fish breeds yet so if i'm at work and she tells me Spaz is missing, then i know to tell her to check the overflow, the farie wrasse jumps in there. So all the fish get an early name and if we both like it it stays. We have not named the clown pair yet, because we aren't sure which one is going to be the female or the male, we can tell them apart because one has thicker black outlines.

I don't. I used to get this question from people who did not own tanks a lot. I guess I just have a different point of view about keeping fish. I view it as something interesting to look at, like a live painting, not as pets.

my fiance and I name the fish. we do it because it gives individuality to them thus allowing us to take better care of them on an individual basis. plus its fun.

I leave that up to the wife and kid, but we have a rule that they can't be named until they've been in the display for a month (after QT of 6 weeks). This keeps some of the attachment issue down should the new fish not work out.

I used to not name them as well after having my freshwater fish die after naming them lol. might just have been a coincidence as freshwater fish don't live long...

I do name some of my fish. Right now my mandarin's name is Lola since she reminds me of the coco cabana song lol. I don't really have any good ones for the rest of my fish yet though. I did name my big zebra hermit bully since that's what he was... he is now at my LFS awaiting a new home :)
