Does Anyone Name Their Fish?

I named my fish. Clown's name is Marlin, Waspfish's name is Sporky, other Waspfish's name is Trish. Sporky and Trish are inside jokes, :D

Clowns are Ricky and Lucy (parakeets are Fred and Ethel), Blue Damsel is Little Blue, Orange Marked Goby is Sandy (go figure). Freshwater fish only one has a name, Big Guy cause he is over 18" long (Pleco).

My 6yo son named our Midas Blenny 'school bus'. He's long and yellow. Get it? ;P

The clowns are wrasse are just named 'clowns' and 'wrasse'... LOL. The smaller clown is sometimes referred to as 'baby' as we got him as a super tiny juvenile. He was essentially a baby at the time.

I am wondering if a fish has the ability to recognize it's own name. Our parakeet certainly does.

This reefer told me a story about how him and his Gf use to name all their fishes and they would end up dying. They stopped naming their fishes and they stayed alive lol pretty funny I thought

i found my luck to be the opposite, if i didnt name the fish they would die, so now i name my fish for luck i guess you could say, my pair of clowns is blinky and bobo

Yep, my kids get a kick out of naming them:
foxface rabbitfish = Spike...for obvious reasons
coral beauty = mango
yellow tang = lemondrop
orange spine unicorn tang = lips...they found out it's also known as a lipstick tang after they named him
blue powder tang = surge...I told 'em about a guy from Beverly Hills Cop and since he's also a surgeonfish the name just stuck
false perc 1 = nemo...what kid wouldn't think of that?
false perc 2 = mini me...I thought that was clever when they came up with it
black cucumber = I call him "turd"...I'm sure this is so original
16 mini hermits = boodabob1, boodabob2, etc...the last one is "Steve"...their idea
large rbta = rose, again...very original
small rbta = rosetta
5 maxi mini carpets = names seem to change but always some kind of rug name like "throw" or "shag"
7 green chromis = they don't have names...just too doggone flittish to focus on long enough to give a name

Guilty...

Orangeshoulder tang... Poncho
Scribbled rabbitfish... drums
Green mandarin... Randall
Ocellaris... nemo u.u hehe
Frogspawn... shaggy

dont name them all but some of them

Yellow Tang- lil Miss Sunshine
Royal Gamma- Phil (after Phil Jackson)
Blenny- Frogface (but we just call him blenny, haha)
Blue Tang- Sid (after sid viscous because he's a little punk)
the clowns and chromis do not have names for some reason

My favorite name for one of my fish was Tony Blue Lips :)

I not sure what kind of tang it is besides that I named it ...LOL

Kissiy lips ~ it's always kissing everything in the tank. When my husband
Reads this he is going to laugh...

Clownfish named Ugly because he is. From far away he's not too bad but up close his face is hideous, he also bites me whenever my hand is in the tank. Not only is he unattractive, he has a bad attitude as well.

I've always been told that its bad luck. I'm not superstitious but I've never found myself naming my fish, although friends and family have their own names for them. My mother calls my Mandarin "Psycho" which I think is pretty cool. The only thing I've named in my tanks is my eel. My friend has an Iguana named "Commander Carnage", and we named my Snow Flake "Brigadier Badass"

It's interesting that there's normally a female or child involved in naming them But it's you guys that can be too superstitious to do it.

Never fear, I named loads of fish in my first tank and they at least lived until I had to let it go (I don't think US customs would have liked me turning up at immigration with a tank!) ;)

Heck I even named my BTA and it's clones haha! (The 1st was called Spaghetti and then the rest were other pasta varieties.)

I can safely say that naming the doesn't doom them. So name away! :D

I had a pair of Picasso clowns. Buster and timmy, for buster posey and Tim lincecum from yours truly MLB world champions sf giants. Had to let them go so hopefully the new owner kept their names :)
