Does anyone use a Carlson Surge Device or "Toilet Flapper" Surge Device

Just seems wierd, I never hear anyone talk about a
Carlson Surge Device and "Toilet Flapper" Surge Device anymore.

I built one before. Pretty easy to do. Just find it interesting that there isn't much 'word' about it anymore.

If anyone has built one, how about some pics?

I've got one running in my garage. Had it going for about 7 years now. I've got a few pics on my other computer. I have it set up in 1/2 of a 15 gallon tank (other half is a refugium that overflows into the the "flush" side).

I'm setting one up right now, they are awesome in my opinion. Great flow and if you don't mind the nosie and such (mine's in the garage/mini LFS so it's moot) they are pretty hard to beat for simplicity and natural flow.

HAHAHAHAHA....THATS GREAT!!!!

"Istanbul" by They Might Be Giants......havent heard that song in years. I got to go get my Giants CD's out and have a listen for old times sake now.

Someone needs to make a video to "Dr. Worm" next :)

im definitely doing a surge device when i upgrade. The flow can't be beat and it is the most natural flow possible!

PS.. that songs is bada$$ :)

New to the hobby.

How can you make the surge device work with existing powerheads, overflows etc? Do you eliminate them and replace them with the carlson? My pump and overflows would starve when the water level goes down to fill the surge tank.

I have a 120g tank and use a blueline100 pump to move ~1200g/hr through the tank. I have 3 cpr 600g overflows skimming. You can bet that I am used to noise.

Thanks

Finally got a pic in my gallery.

This is a 15 gallon tank divided in half. One half is a refugium, and it overflows into the other half - the toilet flapper side, which "flushes" about 6 gallons of water into my 80 gallon tank about once a minute.

Not a very pretty picture, but this is my garage/experimental tank...and things have a tendency not to be set up for "pretty," but more for "tinker." :D
