does dimming the wp-25 do damage?

hey all-
just wondering if you're still using a dimmer on the wp-25? is there a correlation between failed controllers and using dimmers?
thanks

I personally had the controller die on me while using a dimmer. The sensor light stayed on most of the time as well. My pump stayed in a full power mode once it failed. I used the dimmer while waiting for a replacement from Jebao. The new controller works fine. I won't be using a dimmer again. I plan on getting an Apex soon and controlling it with that instead.

hmmm
wondeing if a more accurate question would be " if your wp-25/40 failed, was it on a dimmer or modified?"

I too had a controller die on me using a dimmer.

My unsubstantiated, unverified, and unstudied hunch tells me the controllers don't take well to dimmers.

I'm not looking the way this is headed. The dimmer is the only way I can have it in my 30 rimless. When I initially plugged it in, it sent water cascading over the top lip.

I've actually been toying with an easy removable "mod" for it. I remember reading a thread on how to make powerheads (specifically koralias) "anemone safe".

This involved wrapping the powerhead in needle point backing from a craft store. I have some here I purchased months ago and I think I'm going to try it. I'm figuring it's going to reduce the flow and possibly allow me to run in ELSE mode.

Here is the thread I was referencing.

so i guess its the controller that cant handle the dimmer. If you use an aftermarket controller (apex, RA, etc) the pumps seem to be doing just fine. I dont think I have seen a single failure from one used on an aftermarket controller.

i posted a poll (lighting section) for wp owners, and actually (so far) it doesn't appear to be related.
we need alot more input though...
