Does GFO affect chaeto growth?

This stuff used to multiply so fast for me, I was always giving it away. Since my GHA problem started and I started the GFO, I haven't been able to keep a healthy ball of chaeto. It just slowly recedes, like my hairline.

Sjmply put..Yes... chaeti grows off phosphates and nitrates.... your gfobgets rid of phosphates .

If you have a bunch of hair algae still it could also be robbing the nutrients your cheato was using.

Same problem here(hairline). Both gfo and macro are nutrient exporters. Is your GHA receding.

Cesar, I am able to grow it, the chaeto i gave you came from a GFO and Carbon run tank. I do run my fuge light 24/7 though. It doesn't grow volume but it does grow thick strands

I finally made some time this evening to do some "weeding". The tips seem to be turning white. When I go to pluck it, it just pops right out with a very weak hold on the back wall. I think this is good, as it seems that the GFO is working. It seems to continue to grow, but with a weak grip. I'll switch out my GFO tomorrow and hope this helps.

As far as the chaeto, I hope getting rid of this excess algae helps it. I'm not sure if there's any relation, but lately my Lps have been very plump. Everything seems to be doing well. I only have two tangs and a shrimp goby in the tank as far as fish go.

my GHA/bryopsis is getting weaker too with attachment to the rocks... i can go in and just pluck it right off without hearing or feeling the tearing feeling that I used to get! Kent Marine Tech M... thank you! It is also turning a lovely nasty shade of brown diarrhea! So hopefully it will die off soon!

My GHA is beginning to look weaker too. We did a 30 g water change and put one of those PO4 absorbing filter pads in our bubble trap. And the coolest thing has started...my spider coral polyps are all extended! I'm so excited. :bounce2: I guess high PO4 was making it unhappy - or maybe it just liked the water change. I'm looking forward to getting GFO up and running.
