when i asked my lfs about qting corals they told me to just dip them in iodine. does this really work good enough? I just got over a huge ich outbreak and don't want any parasites in my tank at all! I am qting all fish in hypo before they go in. Can i trust the iodine dip for corals? I know they don't get ich but they can still carry it. What should i do?

The iodine dip will kill most pests related to corals. There is a chance that ich could still hitch a ride in. I'd say chances are slim but possible. Depends on how risk adverse you are.

i think he told me to combine a fresh water dip with an iodine dip. He said to get fresh water at the same temp and ph as my tank and add iodine as directed and slosh the coral around in it them look for any parasites. He said i may want to let it sit for a few minutes then shake it around again.
I want to be pretty certain that i am not putting any parasites ich especially into my tank. I lost a few hundred dollars of fish and have been looking at an empty tank for months just to be certain it doesn't happen again. I have no experience with this treatment. Just to give you an example of how much work im doing to prevent an outbreak. i set up 2 qt tanks and will qt all fish in hypo for 6 weeks before they even think about going into the tank. What do you guys think i should do?

I do not thing an iodine or FW dip would help as related to importing Ich along with coral.

FW dips help in treating Ich when on the fish, they simply cause the parisite to drop off the fish, it takes much longer for the ich to die. Chemical treatments like Kick Ich only work in the free swimming stage after the Tophonts burst and the little buggers go swimming for a host. My guess is that in the semi dormant stage they would be in, and the amount of time for the dip, you would do little dammage.

You could have a QT / frag tank with no fish and simply hold any and all coral for 30 days.... outlasting the ich life cycle.

would 30 days be long enough? This is what i origionally planned to do. (qt corals). but i thought it would take longer and i don't have anything but n.o. lights on my qt.
