I want to buy this plate coral but it just does not look right. Am I wrong? I was under the impression it should be circular this one looks like it has flesh missing around the rim?
They don't always grow perfectly circular. The shape can be altered by it's surroundings and what it is growing it. Looks like a perfectly healthy specimen to me.
my experiance is with plate corals is that they expand their tissue by sucking /absorbing water and therefor larger than the actual disk. when they do this as i think this is the case here they will take on differenty shapes depending on current and tank mates.
my bet is his disk is most likley round. and the indented sides are actualy its tissue.
It looks like a Cycloseris tenuis based on the septa patterns and shape, and that species isn't always exactly circular...and are commonly yellow. Could also be from fragging, if it was.
