does your mandarin goby burrow into the sand

I recently noticed my mandarin goby burrows under the sand at night to sleep. anyone else with a mandarin see this?

Not all burrow, mine (a spotted) has never burrowed, just finds a crevice and hides there. I have had 3 or 4 over the decades and none have ever burrowed.

that's what I thought. I don't even recall ever reading anywhere that they burrow (not even on the comprehensive mandarin primer thread). so one morning I found my mandarin covered with sand (the sandbed has a small lump in the shape of the mandarin, so I assumed it was the mandarin). so I thought, man, my mandarin died, so I was about to scoop it out and it started swimming around. since then I see it buried under some sand (I don't have a deep sandbed, maybe only half inch or less in some areas) at night when I check the tank.

My Scooter dragonet does this but a friends doesn't so i guess its down to personality or possibly choice of sand.

In the same tank my red scooter blenny burrows but I have never seen my spotted mandarin do this. The blenny will even swim arou the tank covered in sand. He only does this at night

I used to have a scooter blenny who ocassionally burrowed at night, but he didn't do it often. My current mandarin never burrows.

An old thread but I'm really stumped. I trained mine to eat frozen for about 3days to make sure. I have a pair of spotted mandarin gobies (male &female) and the. I released them in the main tank which is about a year old 50gal breeder. But haven't seen them since last night. Do they burrow all the way in the sand????! Because I can't find neither of them!

Thanks
